It is especially known because the “Sesriem gate” is the main access point to the Namib-Naukluft National Park for visitors entering the park to visit the nearby tourist attraction of Sossusvlei. Sesriem is also known for Sesriem Canyon, about 4 km from Sesriem itself, which is the second most important tourist attraction in the area after Sossusvlei. It is a natural canyon carved by the Tsauchab river in the local sedimentary rock, about a kilometre (0.6 mile) long and up to 30 meters (100 feet) deep. The name Sesriem is Afrikaans and means “six rawhide thongs”, given by settlers on the Dorsland Trek who had to join six such thongs in order for a bucket to reach the water. Sesriem Canyon is only two metres (6.5 feet) wide in some places, and has a portion that permanently contains water, which many animals use. Situated at the Entrance Gate to the Namib Naukluft Park, Sossusvlei Lodge offers direct access to the towering red sand dunes, the famous pan of Sossusvlei, the scorched black trees of Dead Vlei and the remarkable depths of the Sesriem Canyon. The Sossusvlei Lodge Adventure Centre provides a range of activities including Guided Excursions to Deadvlei and Sossusvlei, Elim dune walks, Sundowner Trips, Quad Buggy Nature Drives, Hot Air Ballooning, Scenic Flights and much more to explore the area’s natural beauty.

Swakopmund is known as activity center of Namibia, nowhere else in the country travelers will find such a variety of possible activities. Atlantic Garden Boutique Hotel is conveniently situated in the center of Swakopmund next to the historical “Altes Amtsgericht” building, on the corner of Theo-Ben Gurirab & Tobias Hainyeko Street. Palmwag is a nature reserve in northern Namibia. It is located in the Kunene region, in northwestern Damaraland, halfway between Swakopmund and the Etosha National Park. It covers an area of 400,000 hectares. An interesting tree species that are being found there palm tree hyphaena pertesiana. In a wide valley sometimes flush with grass, Desert Rhino Camp lies in the enormous Palmwag Concession, where trackers patrol and protect one of Africa’s largest free-ranging populations of Critically Endangered desert-adapted black rhino. Rhino tracking on foot and by vehicle with these dedicated conservationists is a unique and exclusive wilderness experience; other activities include exploring the area on full-day outings, nature drives or walks. The landscape is unique and varied and subsequently home to a wide variety of animals. For example lion, elephant, leopard, giraffe, cheetah, hyena, springbok, two kinds of zebra, eland and many more species of wildlife are found here. What makes this park unique is the floodlit waterholes at all the main camps. Some of the camps even have photography hides near the waterholes. Of course, Etosha National Park is any photographer or nature lover’s dream. Most of the lodges have private decks or verandas to observe the pristine landscape. You can see the white salt etched against the desert backdrop on this Etosha National Park satellite map. Because of the salt, animals can get a lot of nutrients from the earth here. Also, the wildlife is quite easily spotted because the plant life is so sparse. To sum up, Etosha is a unique landscape and travelers will tell you it’s an unforgettable experience. Prime destination for nature lovers combined with excellent service and cuisine! Etosha Village uniquely combines affordability with comfort and delivers the perfect safari style experience in a private and protected reserve directly adjacent to the Etosha National Park, near Okaukuejo.
